Brussels, European Parliament: The decision to reject the two petitions signed by Trade Union Confederation of Romania (CSDR) and the Romanian Federation of Journalists (FRJ) Mediasind, on the inclusion of the Romanian press among the “Vulnerabilities” chapter of National Defense Strategy will be appealed to the Conference of Presidents (composed of the heads of seven political groups in the EP).

European Parliament: The closing of the uncompetitive coal mines from Valea Jiului has been delayed until 2018. The Romanian MEPs’ votes were divided.

European Parliament passed a resolution calling for the deadline for closing the uncompetitive coal mines from European Union (such as the ones from Valea Jiului) to be postponed until 2018. The term originally proposed by the European Commission (1 October 2014) is considered to be unachievable. Thus, a majority of MEPs felt that the closure of uncompetitive coal mines will have a strong social impact because of mass layoffs of workers in the field, so that more time is needed for their integration into the labor market.
