Qvorum Youth Councils, in partnership with the European Institute for Participatory Democracy Qvorum, are organizing a project called EURO GO TO VOTE! for the European elections that will take place in May 12 to 15 2014. Now at its third edition, the project will take place in four counties across the country: Dolj, Sibiu, Gorj and Dâmboviţa.
EURO GO TO VOTE! project aims to encourage citizens to vote during the elections for the European Parliament, on May 25, 2014, and also be aware of the importance of their own vote.
Our target is mainly consisted of young people, aged at least 18 years and voting for the first time in the European Parliament elections, as well as other Romanian citizens that have the right to vote.
Those that will benefit over this project will have access to information regarding the European Union, The European Parliament, as well as notions related to methods for public participation at a European level.
In all four counties there will be several presentations organized in schools and colleges, debates on European laws directly impacting our youth, fotovoice sites and various informative materials.
GO TO VOTE! is a follow-up stage for the project Information is power! Stay strong! conducted by the Qvorum Institute in 2010 and takes place regularly in the run up to local and European elections.
The structure of the GO TO VOTE! project is the following:
– a series of presentations in schools and colleges about the right and the importance of the vote, atributions of local and central powers that represent the European Parliament and the role of an MEP as well as public participation methods locally, nationally and at an european level.
– flashmobs and fotovoice sites;
– debates based on the national and European legislation with a direct impact on young people;
Young people that are active in the Information is power! Stay strong! project have grouped in the Qvorum Youth Councils with the ultimate purpose of monitoring the activity of local and county councils.
